PRESS RELEASE

Woodbridge Notable Tree Identification

A Joint Project of

the Woodbridge Garden Club and the Woodbridge Park Association

This is the short version of our press release:

The Woodbridge Garden Club and the Woodbridge Park Association Announce a Town Wide Notable Tree Identification Project

Woodbridge Garden Club President Betty Fearon and Woodbridge Park Association President Richard Forselius, with essential assistance from Leslie Martino, are pleased to announce a town of Woodbridge-wide joint notable tree identification project.  Especially grand and unusual species of trees will be cataloged in a database.  This project will be launched on Arbor Day, April 30th, 2004.

All Woodbridge residents are cordially invited to submit nominations of notable trees using a tree identification form.   Trees may be nominated from resident’s private property or public properties such as those held by the town of Woodbridge, the Woodbridge Park Association, the Woodbridge Land Trust, etc.

A small identification team will be sent to each nominated tree to catalog it.  Woodbridge Boy Scout troops and other community organizations are invited to assist with this effort.  The tree species will be verified; the circumference of the trunk and height & breadth of the tree will be measured.  A photograph will be taken, and the GPS coordinates will be recorded and plotted on a map of the town of Woodbridge.

This project was partially undertaken to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the Woodbridge Garden Club and will also be discussed at the seventy-fifth anniversary celebration of the Woodbridge Park Association on Sunday, May 16, 2004 at 3:00 PM.  A 75th ceremony will be held at the entrance to the Alice Newton Street Park in Woodbridge Center between the Town Hall and the First Church of Christ Parish House.
